The Supreme Court has given its decision regarding the NEET UG exam. The court has refused to cancel this exam. But now Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have passed a resolution in the assembly. Both the states say that they want the old system for the medical entrance exam. At the same time, the anti-paper leak bill has been passed in the Bihar Assembly.
Protest already in Tamil Nadu
The Supreme Court refused to re-conduct the NEET UG exam. There was not enough evidence of paper leak across the country. Therefore, there is no need to conduct the exam again. Recently, the Tamil Nadu Assembly passed a resolution urging the central government to abolish the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and restore the state-level system based on class XII marks for medical admission. CM Stalin proposed to abolish NEET as he believes that it is breaking the dreams of rural and poor students to become doctors.
West Bengal resolution against NEET
Now Bengal has also approved a similar proposal. The proposal states that there was rigging in the exam. The West Bengal government has demanded to keep the state out of the NEET exam. The governments of both the states say that they want to keep the old system in place in the medical entrance exam. This proposal has been passed in West Bengal after the Supreme Court’s decision. State Education Minister Bratya Basu says that when these exams were handed over to the central government, it was a step that damaged the federal structure. This was also opposed.
Anti paper leak bill in Bihar
Now in Bihar, leaking the question paper of any exam will result in a 10-year sentence and a fine of Rs 1 crore. Also, the property of the culprits can be confiscated. This provision has been made in the Bihar Public Examination Unfair Means Prevention Bill, which has been passed recently. Now, in case of paper leak in all the state government examinations, there will be a provision of three to five years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10 lakh. Now DSP rank officers will investigate the cases of paper leak.
